Why Should You Learn English and/or Spanish At All?

There is a drastic rise in the percentage of people in US who are now using Spanish as their second language. Use of the language is most commonly seen in households. However, the considerable rise in the percentage of Spanish speakers reflects the fact that we will be seeing more Spanish speaking people in markets, streets, towns and cities in the near future.

If we take a closer look at the facts and figures by U.S. census bureau, over 40 million people who are of Latin American origin, speak English and Spanish fluently. However there are nearly 12 million Spanish speakers who cannot speak English fluently.

In light of the above facts, we may conclude that we will see a rise in the percentage of people who can speak English while being Spanish originally. Both Native English speakers and Native Spanish speakers are taking the efforts to learn the other language, so that they can cope up with the growing trend.

In work and office environments, it is quite possible that some of your co-works don’t understand or know Spanish or English. This may happen with you if you work in Texas, California or Florida which a number of native Spanish speakers call their home. Hence, it would be a good idea to learn the other language that you are not yet aware about yet.

These situations may be more difficult to handle where either your boss or your subordinate working under you speaks only Spanish. Hence, it makes perfect business sense to learn Spanish (or English, in case you’re Spanish).

There are many other cities where English is the primary language of majority of the people. However, here the consequences are quite the same, only that they are turned around in favor of those who speak English. For example, if you are a native Spanish speaker and want to provide services in the US, you will have to learn English in any case. It really helps open up new career opportunities for you.

Although learning a second language may sound peculiar and unnecessary at times, it is always good to adapt to the challenges you need to face in your environment. As a native speaker of either language, you should learn the other language to ensure smooth flow of communication with other people who don’t speak the same language as you.

If you are one of those people who like to learn at your own pace and at your convenience, I recommend that you opt for self learning programs like CDs and DVDs. You may also go in for online English/Spanish learning programs. If you prefer face to face interaction and a classroom environment, then traditional English/Spanish classes are the place you must look for.

Today, it has become an absolute must to learn English or Spanish. By doing this early on, you can get a first move advantage very easily.
