Learn Spanish When You Speak English

It is also considered to be the fastest growing community because the percentage increased to 13% in the year 2005. These figures automatically explain the reason why one must learn Spanish when you already speak English in America.

As people are familiar with the language and environment created by their Hispanics neighbors, they are interested in learning this language properly. Many individuals pursue Spanish as a second language. Others may learn the language for fun or as a hobby.

The percentage mentioned above includes the poor immigrants as well as the rising population of rich and prosperous Hispanic families. This is important to know because the disposable income of the Hispanic minority group is $700 billion! It is predicted that this will increase to as high as $1 trillion by the year 2010. The Hispanic population is increasing and so is the targeted market.

Spanish is also the language of choice for communicating at home for over 90% of the Hispanic minority group in the US. Spanish is still the primary language of this group. Since they don’t speak English very fluently, one may learn Spanish to broaden his or her horizon. Learning Spanish automatically makes this 90% of the group more approachable to native English speakers.

In the past, Spanish speaking people were found only in New York and near the Mexican borders. However, Hispanics can now be found in California, Illinois and Pennsylvania and other areas of the US. It is obvious that you will come across such people who have very little to no knowledge of English language and who can speak only Spanish.

The Hispanic community is also the target market of many businesses today. For any business to market to this group, it is necessary that their community and culture is studied in detail. This obviously requires a good grasp of Spanish which is their language. Only then can communication be enabled between the native English speakers and the Hispanics.

Nearly three-fourth of the Hispanic community are not good at English or don’t know the language at all. Hence, to facilitate communication with them, you must learn to understand, write, read and speak Spanish properly. This helps you come across as friendly and captures their attention, leading to a favorable and positive response from their side.

There can be numerous other reasons to learn Spanish even if you’re a native English speaker. However, it is enough to know that the Hispanic community is growing fast and so are native Spanish speakers. Hence, Spanish is usually the first language of choice when one thinks of learning a second language in the US. If you’ve been planning on doing the same, now would be the right time to go for it.
